Plantation Slave in Bondage
After having said in my earlier post that it was rare to find actual bondage in classical art, here’s another rare example. This looks like an engraving from the era of the Caribbean plantations, and is almost breathtaking in its brutality:
A useful reminder that the fantasy bondage themes we like to play with here are powerful precisely because of their resonances with non-consensual historical antecedants.
