From an old lurid book cover:

Captive Women (In The Hands Of The Senecas). Will they be tortured? Sold? Or forced to marry?

Most likely the cover had very little to do with the actual story!

…my first introduction to bondage/slavery was a similar book: UNCONQUERED by Niel H. Swanson. I estimate about the time I was 12… having recently gotten my early hard-on viewing the 11.46 issue of every-boy-off-that-time’s fav: NAT GEO on ‘The Roman Way’ … ‘men and women alike were stripped and sold naked’ [hmmm… concept still works ;-) ] I digress. UNCONQUERED also had descriptions of the prison holding pens for women in London in 1770… ‘fifty or more naked women who had traded their garments for easement’… etc.

Ah the pleasures of the ‘historical novel’. Swanson followed up with THE JUDAS TREE, with a fine whipping scene… and…

Shame it’s hard to find books like these in paper nowadays.
