Straight Talk On E-Stim / Electrosex Risk
One reason I don’t talk about bondage and BDSM risk issues much is that everybody else does; there’s plenty of good kink-risk information to be found. What’s more, most sites in what would be my position (people who are not risk experts, talking about risk) tend to err on the side of caution; this leads to lots of ridiculous “safety” advice that is obviously super-overcautious, and I don’t want to be that guy.
Violet on Twitter, talking about electrical toys, captures a lot of my attitude, even though I usually just keep my mouth shut instead:
Look, most e-stim devices certainly CAN be used safely above the waist. Including the TENS machines (which are on the FDA's 'non-significant risk' device list, btw, & usually prescribed to help with things like back pain & headaches) and violet wands.

So please, for the love of god, stop spreading this utter nonsense. When doing e-stim you should avoid crossing the heart. That doesn't mean that EVERYWHERE on your chest/back/neck is a danger zone if you're using these devices with any amount of common sense at all.

Has NO ONE who's written about e-stim toys ever spoken to a doctor or occupational therapist about this? 'Cause they'll laugh at you.

I'm as big of an advocate for safety and *risk awareness* as anyone, but the amount of fear mongering that revolves around e-stim compared to other kinky activities (some of which that actually do carry higher risk) is ridiculous.

It also makes it *incredibly difficult* for people to educate themselves on the *actual risks* when there's this much misinformation circling around.

So stop. Just stop.
Thank you. ⚡️— Violet (@APolyPrincess) December 9, 2017
