The ghoul here seems pretty clearly (to me, anyway) to have been visually inspired by Lon Chaney, Sr.’s depiction of the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera (1925).
Speaking of opera, perhaps Mr. Ghoul is her voice coach. He will assist her to reach her high notes.
