The story of how Ellie wound up on the Haichi IV space station is lengthy and squalid and full of foolish mistakes. Some of them were even her own foolish mistakes, although dishonorable mention must also be made of the Randoori tramp freighter captain who told her he was going to human space and then marooned her by losing his ship in a game of Tyrellian dice. It doesn’t matter now. She’s the first human ever seen in Haichi space and they take an unpleasant manner with vagrants who can’t pay their air bill:
