Menaced In A Short Skirt
Helpless in bondage is bad enough, but when the space gladiator points his blaster at you, the shit just got real!

1938! Wow. I realize the St. Andrew’s Cross isn’t exactly new technology (hence the name!) but how common was it during that time period to see this device? I was surprised to see the date of 1938. There’s kind of a modern feel to it.
Like, if you had told me about a 1938 comic cover featuring a damsel in distress, I would have assumed “chair,” “post,” or “tree.”
That issue was actually dated November 1971.
The first issue was printed in December 1935 under the title New Comics. The series was retitled New Adventure Comics with its 12th issue in January 1937. Issue #32 (November 1938) saw the title changed again to Adventure Comics.
The earliest “bondage” cover I know from Adventure comics can be seen here.
Well, you would know! Thanks so much. I took the bad date out of the post.
There’s a lot (everything!) about old comics I don’t know. The 1938 date was on the first two sites I checked, which is about as much research effort as these image posts usually get from me. If a couple of plausible-looking sites seem to agree on something, I tend to run with it. Thanks again!
This is fascinating, thank you! I guess my instincts were on to something.
